selfie sunday & winter

It was only yesterday that Hubby received his birthday gift from me. The reason why it took more than a month was because he was confused with what he really wanted me to get him (he had a lot of choices), and we wanted to wait for the DSF to take advantage of the sales and promos.

Finally, he made his decision and we went to Sharaf DG in Deira City Centre last night where I got him a Samsung Galaxy Note 3. It came with a Dhs250 voucher (which we used right then to reduce the Note’s price), Etisalat SIM, Smartphone kit, and data transfer.

After he had updated the settings on Winter this morning, I tried its camera…thus, these 2 selfies:

In fairness, ang pretty ko pala ‘no? Aside from cropping, walang edit-edit at hindi pa ako nagsusuklay nyan. Hahaha! In my opinion, Winter’s camera is much better than Tisay’s (my Galaxy Note 8.0) because it’s much more clearer and brighter…and mas maganda ako tingnan sa selfies ko dun =)

By the way, here’s Winter and the Smartphone kit we got with it, in no other color but my favorite. Expect to see me borrowing the headphones from time to time =)

there always has to be a catch

One of our managers gave me an iStyle Gift Voucher worth Dhs100 from HSBC. He said that he received a similar one for Sharaf DG a couple of months ago, but when he used it, he ended up buying items worth Dhs1,000. So he decided this time, he wouldn’t give in to the temptation to spend more.

Awesome for me, right? I immediately checked the internet for what items were being sold at iStyle, and as I expected, most of them cost at least Dhs1,000. However, I did notice that apart from the accessories, they did sell one item that cost less than Dhs200.
this would be perfect for when I go to the park to walk and jog, don't you think?
I was all set on calling Hubby to ask him if we could go to the mall after work so that we could buy it. After all, I’ll just have to fork out Dhs99. Sayang naman kung hindi samantalahin ang pagkakataon.  I had even already chosen the color I wanted to buy it in.  But then I turned over the voucher and saw this...
darn!
So what’s the problem there? I don’t have an HSBC credit card!

pick-me-upper #1

Even though my spirits lifted after reading those bible verses the other day, I still couldn’t help feeling a bit miserable. After all, I’m still human; you can’t expect the feelings of crappiness immediately disappear. The next day (yesterday), I went on with my life as normal and did whatever I needed to do. I was still offended, but I had already accepted the fact that it just wasn’t time to get what I was hoping for. In the afternoon when Hubby fetched me from work, he asked me what the plan (for the rest of the day) was. We didn’t have our regular upper household that night, so our evening was totally free. I just shrugged and said “Wala. Anong plano mo?” To which he asked if I wanted to go to Deira City Centre.

out with the old, in with the new

Remember my Father's Day gift to Hubby? Well, Father’s Day, GITEX season, Hubby’s birthday, Christmas, and even New Year’s day came and went, but Hubby still hadn’t made up his mind as to what TV screen he wanted. By mid-December, I kept reminding him (jokingly, of course) that his coupon would expire at the end of the month, but he just couldn’t decide...even when our almost 9-year-old TV broke on UAE National Day (it suddenly decided to stop showing the images on the screen), forcing Mama and Yaya Cel to settle on listening to their favourite telenovelas and using their own imaginations. Sure there were a lot of great offers in the supermarkets and electronics stores, but the urge to get a new one just wasn’t that strong...until yesterday.

a new desktop after 6+ years

As soon as I completed 6 years with the company last May, I immediately informed our IT engineer that I wanted a new CPU/desktop. Although it was working fine at 6 years old, it was getting slow and I experienced some problems occasionally (although nothing that major that a simple restart couldn’t fix). And besides, compared to the employees from our Projects department, mine was already ancient. I thought for sure that since our department’s printer and scanner were connected to my computer, I would get a new desktop right away. But unfortunately, being from Admin, my request didn’t seem to be a priority, so I just had to make tiis.

the washlet

In an earlier post, I mentioned that we would be moving to a new building. Last Thursday before the Eid Al Adha holidays was our last day at our old office, so when we went back to work yesterday, we went to our new office. As expected, it was a busy day. Everyone was unpacking, sorting out their stuff, reading and taking the required actions of e-mail messages that had accumulated over the holiday, and all the other things you usually do when you move into a new office. There were still some furniture that hadn’t been delivered yet so not everyone was able to settle down completely; but generally, we were ok.

my new "style"

When you’re a mother like me who wants to always capture special occasions and your child’s milestones, you have to have a camcorder. Fortunately, I have EBI, given to me by hubby for my last birthday, which takes good videos (and a few good pictures too). And when you have a blog, it’s practically a requirement for you to have a camera. It doesn’t have to be the latest model or a DSLR; an ordinary digital point and shoot one is ok as long as it takes good pictures. For more than 6 years, I’ve been using this

tisoy

Hubby has another baby...and yes, it’s ok with me and Caila.
Ever since I brought this little bundle into his life almost two weeks ago, they’re together everywhere they go. Whenever hubby is free, he places himself comfortably on the couch or in the bed to play with Tisoy. Caila isn’t jealous. She likes playing with Tisoy too. Watching them play together and hearing the giggles is music to my ears.
He’s 4.5 inches high and 2.31 inches wide, weighs 137g, and is fair in complexion (hence his name).
So without any further ado, allow me to introduce hubby’s baby:

my early birthday gift

My birthday is still a month away, but hubby said he wanted to take advantage of the Dubai Shopping Festival offers, so off we went to Deira City Centre a few days ago to buy his birthday gift for me.

sixto

I have absolutely zero knowledge with what features and specs in a laptop are considered “cool,” “lufet,” and “asteeeeg” (hubby’s and his friends’ words, not mine).
So just in case you’re wondering, here are the specs of the HP DV6-3298SE I got for hubby:

happy hubby's hp lappy

Last night, after months of searching, I was finally able to buy the laptop hubby wanted.

During last year’s Gitex, he mentioned that he wanted to replace his old laptop because it was, well, old. Plus, he needed a new updated model where he could work on his templates and whatevers if he needed to bring home some work. So, that time, I told him that that would be my birthday gift to him (his birthday was still 2 months later). Unfortunately, we couldn’t find one that he liked. We looked around the shops, but still there was nothing. And then, Ate Cel came and we had all these expenses, so hubby said that it would be better to delay buying the laptop for a while. Little did he know that I had already put aside the money and had no intention to use it except to buy his gift; I was ready anytime.

you can contact us at #1, #2...and/or #6

Last night, hubby and I suddenly realized that between the two of us, we have so many mobile phones...6 to be exact...and all with working SIM cards. Here’s a rundown of all of them:

Nokia 3650 – I got this sometime late 2003 and this is what I used when I came to Dubai (until I replaced it last 2008). The SIM is a prepaid Etisalat number which used to belong to the wife of a Japanese manager who left UAE recently. When I got it, it still had around Dhs80 worth of load :)
Sony Ericsson K750i – Hubby bought this the day we officially became a couple...27 May 2005. We use this for the Smart roaming SIM so that our friends and families in the Philippines can text us for 1 peso. Since hubby regularly takes this with him to work, I send him messages using chikka txt messenger from my computer (instead of using my personal mobile and load).
Sony Ericsson W910i (2) – Hubby and I bought these after we got married in May 2008, and we consider these as our wedding phones (mine is red, his is white). We use these for our personal Etisalat numbers.
Nokia 1208 - This phone came along with the Etisalat number from the Japanese manager’s wife (the one that’s inserted in the Nokia 3650 one), but now I keep our other roaming SIM in this phone because it’s small and light to carry.
Nokia 6600 – This was issued to me by my company last March 2007 and has a postpaid line. I used to use a Nokia 2310, but later they gave me the phone that I’m using now. Since I have to keep this mobile with me at all times, I usually just leave my personal phone at home and have all the calls diverted to my company phone. What I like about this phone (aside from the fact that I can use it to make personal calls from time to time), is the good quality pictures I get to take from it and I can save as many songs (and photos) as I want.
So, there you have it...all our functional mobile phones. We didn’t notice that we had this many until last night when we happened to place them all together. Of course, we don’t bring all of them with us all the time. Usually, we leave the 3650 and the 1208 at home coz just a few people know the numbers of those. As you can see, most of them have sentimental values to us, so letting go of them would be very difficult. I hope one day my company will issue a phone that’s dual SIM enabled (a triple SIM would be even better!). It would definitely make my life a bit easier than having to bring all of these phones.
