#GPinCanada: Whistler, Mountains, and Lakes

For our third full day in Canada, while Ate Mel went to work and my nieces went off to attend their respective summer classes, my brother took us, along with my cousin Ate Evelyn and her son Salman, to Whistler. The ride was pretty long, and although the views were pretty, the twists and curves of the road made it difficult to enjoy. We were halfway there when the kids suddenly barfed, so we had to stop at a shoulder to clean up the mess, change Sophie’s clothes, and change seating arrangements (the 2 kids with me in the middle, and Ate Evelyn and Salman at the back).

Finally, an hour and a half later (and almost 3 hours after we left Langley), we finally reached Whistler, which is famous for having hosted the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games back in 2010
From their official website: Whistler is Canada’s favourite year-round destination. There's two majestic mountains with a vibrant base Village, epic skiing and snowboarding, four championship golf courses, unbeatable shopping, restaurants and bars, accommodation to suit every budget, hiking trails, spas and arguably the best mountain bike park in the world.
The best time to visit the resort is winter, but even though it was summer when we went, there were still quite a number of people. After all, the place was a popular tourist destination in Vancouver.

We had just literally stepped foot into the town plaza when Hubby and I heard someone call his name. We were both surprised because, well, we’re tourists, remember? You don’t expect to see friends while you’re on vacation unless it’s planned; but that’s exactly what happened.
Jason, Jean, her mom and their 2 daughters were also at Whistler, and we all had a good time catching up for a few minutes while indulging ourselves in some delicious and creamy ice cream from Cow’s. We’ve known them since our SFC days, and we also belonged to the same household when we all crossed over to CFC until they migrated to Canada around 3 years ago.

My chocolate (sorry, I forgot the name, but it was absolutely heavenly delish!) and Caila's bubble gum ice creams

There were a lot of things to see and do, but as soon as our girls saw the Whistler Olympic Plaza Inclusive Playground which had a huge tree strump with all sorts of things to make kids go crazy (the good kind of crazy, though ☺), they didn't want to go anywhere else. Since it was the cheapest option (absolutely free!), we just let them enjoy while we adults sat nearby, talked, munched on some snacks, and took pictures.

The first of countless times they went down the slide
See how crazy it made my eldest?
Shouting in delight after their nth time on the slide/ramp

Our journey back to Langley took a bit longer than the drive in the morning. The reason being was Kuya would often stop the car so that we could appreciate the views more and Hubby could take pictures. We didn't mind, though.  It was a vacation, after all; we had all the time in the world

Snow-capped mountains in the background!

Isn’t nature in Vancouver beautiful?!
