What’s New With Radisson Blu’s Fish Market?

If you haven’t heard, Fish Market in Radisson Blu Hotel, Dubai Deira Creek re-opened with its revamped look last September 6. And fortunately, Hubby and I were invited to experience its legacy the new way one night last week with Veronica, the hotel’s Senior Sales Manager. I remember we had dinner and Friday brunch there a few times before and as far as I can recall, back then the restaurant had the ambiance of those markets in Thailand where fresh seafood and vegetables are laid out, and the interiors are mostly made from bamboo. Well this time, it hardly looked like anything to what I remembered, because there were three major things that changed with Fish Market:

New Logo
Even before entering, we noticed right away the new logo on the wall at the entrance. What used to be a fish in front of waves surrounded by a square bamboo frame, was replaced with a simpler logo of the restaurant’s name and a fish at the background.

New Interior
As soon as Hubby and I stepped into Fish Market, we immediately saw how spacious it had become. Heavy bamboo chairs had been replaced with seats, booths, and sofas with lots of pillows which allowed us to enjoy our meal very comfortably. There was also a long table for big groups at the side of the bar. The display of fresh seafood ready for the diners’ selection is now near to the kitchen, with the assorted vegetables just behind, and we couldn’t help notice that the lighting and colors now made the entire restaurant more bright and cheerful.
New Menu
Of course a restaurant that undergoes these changes has to modify its menu, right? But fortunately, the old favourites were still there. What had particularly changed was the addition of salads, appetizers (called “Bites”), soups, and desserts. Yaaaay!
As much as we wanted to try everything that night, Hubby and I didn’t want to be gluttons. So with the help and recommendations of our server Valeria, we sampled their Dynamite Roll (marinated shrimps rolled in sushi and spices) and Thai Fish Cakes (deep-fried fish cakes served with sweet chilli dip) from their Bites.
And from the fresh seafood for our mains, we selected squid, shrimp, halwa, and mussels and just let Valeria and the chef decide what sauce to use and how to cook them.
While we were waiting, one of the other staff approached our table. Armed with a bucket of fresh oysters and bottles of sauces, he offered us a taste of the briny bivalves. I don't particularly eat raw oysters, but since mine was drowned in lemon juice, it tasted ok. A bit salty like the sea, but ok.  I just had to forget that it was slimy ☺
After some time, our food arrived.  Donning our cute, fishy aprons, we sat down to a feast of Fried Calamari, Prawns in Red Chili Sauce, Grilled Fish, and Baked Mussels with Cheese. All of this we ate with servings of Pineapple Rice, Seafood Fried Rice, and Garlic Fried Rice…because we’re Asians ☺
So how was the food? I'm glad to say that the quality and taste were as good as I remembered.  I especially loved the fish cakes, prawns (even though it was spicy), and the baked mussels.  The dips complemented the calamari, and the different varieties of rice were also yummy.  Needless to say, a meal made from fresh ingredients is always fantastic.

All of these we downed with glasses of water, fresh Pineapple Juice, and fresh Watermelon Juice.
If only we hadn't stuffed ourselves so much, I'm sure we would have tried their desserts.  Unfortunately, there was simply no space in our tummies anymore for even a bite of anything sweet.  Oh well, at least this gives us a reason to go back to Fish Market ☺

Big thanks to Veronica, and Ben and his team at Fish Market for taking care of us. Our tummies were definitely happy that night.
